Beautiful Regensburg

We are blessed to have Regensburg as our backyard!
Only 15 minutes by train, 20 by car, it's an easy weekend getaway.
It is the oldest city on the Danube with an amazing 2000 year history!
We've been at least four times in the last six weeks, and still haven't seen it all.

King Ludwig I

Oldest Sausage stand in the world! Right on the banks
of the Danube River.

The bridge behind us was finished in 1146!
I'd say it's ready for a little TLC.

The Yellow building above is the home of the "Hat King"!
World famous, he made this hat,

 And this hat,

And even these hats!

This sign marks a Roman wall/gateway dating from  179 A.D.
It was rediscovered during excavation in 1885!
So cool!

                ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Basilika St. Emmeram.
A 1000 yr old former Benedictine Abbey, now a parish church.
Beautiful ...
And a little creepy.
They love their saints.
I mean really love their saints!
                 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

12th century St. Peter's Cathedral. HUGE!!!

The stained glass is amazing!

Love the "gothic rain spouts".
Depicted as everything from dogs to dragons!

                 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alte Kapella - "Our Lady of the Old Chapel".
 This one they have to keep behind bars to protect all the gold leaf.
Wow. Just, wow.
We've found that most German cities are just like any other. The difference is in the heart.
Make your way to the center, through the urban sprawl and uber contemporary office buildings. Don't stop until your feet hit cobblestones.
There you'll find the 'altstadt' (old city).
That's where the magic is!
